Saturday - Show Stopper

There were two companion balloons in the shape of bees. They were enormous. I have put a picture here of the under side so you can see just how massive they were. We actually got to see these balloons from start to (almost) finish. We saw them come out of the truck in a relatively small square container and then slowly fill and stand up. You can see the flame in one picture. The noise of that really scared Jason. As with the other balloons I mentioned these did not take off.

More Pictures of Saturday

As you can see, the balloons really captured attention. Even Josiah and Jason were captivated for brief moments.

Jason got his first feel of grass. It was not his favorite thing=) (And just in case you're wondering where all the grass came from, the exhibit took place on a golf course. Even in the desert golf courses are grass.)

Saturday

We went with some new friends to a hot air balloon show yesterday. The balloons were spectacular and new friends even better.

Nancy loves any female attention she can get. Jessica obliged and swung Nancy round and round and round.

This balloon wasn't the main attraction by any means, but I liked
the 3-D look of the ship on the sides.

These two bright balloons were gorgeous. They never even went up, though. We didn't figure that out. It seemed a shame to go to the work and trouble of inflating them and not take them up.

I need to get busy with other things. I will have some more pictures to share, but they will have to wait.

Joy

I am listening right now to Christians from Indiana singing praises to God. Two of my children called me on speaker phone so that I could be a part of their worship. Tears are spilling over as I imagine the Lamb, the King, the God that they are praising and their sincere faces and voices by which I've been so encouraged. It is only because God is good and comforting and strengthening that I have coped so well with our recent move. Indeed He is worthy of the praise that moves me now.

To any Christians who are now singing and will later read this please know how privileged you were to join your voice with your brothers and sisters. It is a blessing from God to be able to do that! My love to all of you!

Oops

Sure hope you all caught my mistake in the last post and laughed out loud. It was too funny to waste. I used the word "extinguishment" instead of "distinguishment" to describe James' ball boy position. When I discovered it I did laugh out loud!

Peer Pressure

I wasn't planning to blog tonight, but several of my fellow bloggers did, and so I am giving way to pressure and following suit.

James has been a ball boy for a professional tennis tournament the last two days. He is planning to go tomorrow after church too. He is actually the head ball boy, or some such extinguishment. He has really enjoyed it. The racket facility in our city was built to attract professional play, so hopefully this will be a great opportunity to see the action for free. The picture is of him in his not so official looking official gear.

The picture of Jason is just because. Isn't he cute?! He just sat there and sat there with that hat on while chewing on his straw. Oh, and guess what Jason did yesterday! He stood all by himself for several seconds! I couldn't believe it. Now today he is absolutely chicken about it, but he did it yesterday. We now have a surgery date for his palate repair. March 28. My wonderful mother is coming to help. She is the best!

Joshua made it to Indiana safely on Thursday, then to Pennsylvania Friday. He went snowboarding today. While doing so, he wiped out, tearing the scabs from his recently mutilated elbow and side. He mostly had fun, though. Of course.

A Nancy funny: I gave her a bath tonight. Afterward she pointed to her raisin like finger and said, "I have sprinkles, Mommy!"

Have a phenomenal second half of the weekend! We will be enjoying worshiping the ever worthy God.

Mischief and Mishap

Jason has definitely started a new stage! He is braver, more stubborn and more independent than ever before. The first picture was taken under one of the benches in the kitchen. The poor boy is so short that it's hard for him to pull up to standing on just anything. He discovered the bar running in between the legs under the bench. It was perfect for pulling up on since he's little taller than a grasshopper=) The story behind the second picture: Jason had been put down for a nap. I kept hearing little, quiet noises on the monitor. It sounded to me like he was pulling stuff off the dresser at the end of the crib. That baffled me, though, because he's not tall enough to do that. Joshua went to check on him and discovered that he'd gotten a hold of the cord to the monitor and pulled the whole thing in with him. It was a good laugh! The monitor has since been moved.

The mishap occurred today. Joshua and Jacob took Jacob's bike to the park this afternoon so Joshua could try jumps with the bike. Joshua missed the last jump and made quite a splat. He is pretty scraped up, making mincemeat of one elbow. His hand is also very sore and three fingers swollen. He is going to the orthopedic doc tomorrow, so we'll have him check that out along with his knees. I am grateful that he is not hurt much worse!

Science

Joseph and Jared have been studying air in Science. This was bubble day. It was a lot of fun. Bubbles are just somewhat magical, don't you think?

Nancy After Christmas

Nancy with her new Cinderella tiara.

Nancy spinning in her (old) Cinderella dress. I never could get her from the front though I took many pictures trying. She just spins too fast!

After Christmas

My parents started sending money to the kids for Christmas and letting them buy their own selections. It really is a fun to do because they get to go shopping and pick something(s) they like. That is just not something our children get to do otherwise, so it's a real treat. These are pictures of some of their purchases.

Joseph playing with his new remote control ATV and Jason's reaction.

A wheelie. (Don't look too close or you can see that he cheated!)

This is Jared holding the helicopter he made with his new Erector set.

For My Mom

Mom, you asked for close-ups of the snowmen. I know it's easier for you to view pictures on the blog than in an email, so they are here for you.

Just a Couple of Things

This morning we had a lesson at church preliminary to a God Does Exist series - or something like that. It was quite good. Anyway, during the lesson he was talking about the Million Monkeys Typing theory that evolutionists have used in support of their position. They claim that a million monkeys typing for a certain length of time will by random chance produce the entirety of Shakespeare's works. At this point, Jared leaned over to me and said, "No wonder Shakespeare is so hard to understand." Too bad it was in the middle of church or I could have laughed long and hard over that.

Jason was sick tonight. He appeared to just have fever. I can tell that his second tooth is almost in, so I hope that's all it was. We weighed him last night, and he had gained about 10 oz. since December 12. That's not huge, but it is still steady growth. I guess that's what matters. He is more adventurous with his mobility now. Last night he persistently scooted to the stairs over and over. He has also discovered an outlet and the dvd/vhs player. The outlet is protected, so it is a safe learning tool. He is also at the point of pulling up in the crib and then not knowing how to get back down. You know the rest of the story: They wear themselves out standing there, then cry because they don't know what to do next.

Joshua leaves on the 17th to go to Indiana. He will be gone 3 weeks and two days. I am really going to miss him. He is very excited, though. While there he will travel to Pittsburgh to go snowboarding, then to Florida for the Florida College Lectureships. He will get to spend time with friends and hopefully with family as well. He surely better tell Haelley how much her grandma loves and misses her. He goes to the doctor on the 14th about his knees. He told me tonight that the doctor better not tell him he can't go snowboarding=)

James is also going to Indiana in January. He leaves on the 22nd and returns on the 29th. He will spend his week with Molly and her family. I will miss him too, but thankfully he'll only be gone a week.

Stacey is starting school tomorrow (7th). At this point she is planning to pursue a secondary education degree but is unsure of keeping that plan. The first semester is so basic that it should be okay if she changes her mind. She is nervous but excited about starting. I think she will do well. She is so capable - and strong enough to plow through her nervousness and any other hurdles. I am proud of her.

John W. is also starting school this month. He will be working on something in business, possibly an associates degree in business management. I need to clarify that with him but keep forgetting to. He has handled his very new adulthood well. He has such a good head on his shoulders. I wish I had been so on the ball. I miss him a lot! So many times I wish I could walk into the New Salisbury church building where he always opened the door for everyone.

I have an adorable picture of Haelley on my phone. It's of her with a Pebbles 'do. Maybe James can help me figure out how to put it on the computer so I can post it here.

My sick baby has finally fallen asleep at nearly midnight, so I think I will do the same. Have a wonderful week everybody!
